About

The Department of Languages, Faculty of Applied Arts, at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) was originally the Languages branch of the Department of Languages and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Technical Education at KMUTNB.  The department became the Faculty of Applied Arts in 2002, and the Department of Languages has continued to provide all schools in the university with English-language-learning courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Our sound labs and Self-access Learning Center are open throughout the semester, so students can have access to additional practice outside class time.

In addition to the fundamental-English courses and English-for-specific-purposes (ESP) courses, the Department of Languages offers two Master’s degree programs: the Program in English for Business and Industry Communication (MBIC) and the Program in Translation for Education and Business (MTEB).  The programs are open for new applicants every semester, with both day-time and night-time classes for the MTEB program.

There are over 30 faculty members–both foreign and Thai lecturers–at the Department of Languages.  A number of the lecturers have received–and many are pursuing–their doctoral degrees, the rest holding at least a master’s degree (with an exception of the foreign lecturers, who have received certificates in teaching English as a second/foreign language), and many are entitled with associate professorship and assistant professorship.  Apart from teaching responsibilities, many of our faculty members hold administrative positions at the school, and the faculty members are active researchers as well as offering such academic services as special courses and trainings both in and outside the university.

ประวัติความเป็นมาและสภาพปัจจุบัน

• ภาค วิชาภาษา เป็นหน่วยงานสังกัดคณะศิลปศาสตร์ประยุกต์ ซึ่งเปิดให้บริการเรียนการสอนในหมวดศึกษาทั่วไป กลุ่มวิชาที่เปิดสอนในมหาวิทยาลัยพระจอมเกล้าพระนครเหนือทั้งหมดทั้งระดับ ปริญญาตรี และบัณฑิตศึกษา นอกจากนี้ภาควิชาภาษายังเปิดหลักสูตรปริญญาโท เพื่อขยายการผลิตบัณฑิต ระดับบัณฑิตศึกษา ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับปรัชญาของคณะและมหาวิทยาลัย

• ปัจจุบัน ภาควิชาภาษามีนโยบายส่งเสริมสนับสนุนการวิจัย การบริหารการจัดการเรียนการสอนและพัฒนาอาจารย์ อีกทั้งยังสนับสนุนบริการวิชาการแก่สังคมและส่งเสริมศิลปวัฒนธรรม

วัตถุประสงค์ :

• ผลิตมหาบัณฑิตที่มีความรู้ความสามารถทางภาษามีคุณธรรมและจริยะธรรม
• ส่งเสริมให้มีผลงานวิจัยในระดับสากลอย่างต่อเนื่อง
• ให้บริการทางวิชาการด้านภาษาที่สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของสังคม
• สืบสานและเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรมของเจ้าของภาษา
• พัฒนาความรู้ความสามารถด้านภาษาอังกฤษพื้นฐานแก่นักศึกษาคณะต่างๆ ในมหาวิทยาลัย
